Novel Drug Candidate Prediction for Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma via Hub Gene Network Analysis and Connectivity Mapping
Laboratory studyHumans
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- Gene expression datasets from public databases (GEO and TCGA) for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and normal biliary cells
- Dose used in the study
- Not stated in the abstract; no compound was tested
- Duration
- Not stated in the abstract
- What was measured
- Differentially expressed genes, co-expression modules, hub genes, their link to survival, and Connectivity Map screening for drugs that might act on those genes
What the authors reported
151 key genes and 10 hub genes were identified. Connectivity Map screening listed candidate drugs including three tyrosine kinase inhibitors, two cannabinoid receptor agonists (palmitoylethanolamide and arachidonamide), two antibiotics and other small molecules.
Limits of this study
A computer-based gene network analysis of existing data; no cell, animal or human testing was done, so it cannot show any effect of palmitoylethanolamide on this cancer. The authors declare no conflict of interest.
