- Whether dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) raises brain palmitoylethanolamide and oleoylethanolamide: a review of CLA's binding to PPAR-alpha and its incorporation into brain tissue.
What the authors reported
CLA is taken up and metabolised in brain tissue, where it induces synthesis of the endogenous PPAR-alpha ligands palmitoylethanolamide and oleoylethanolamide, possibly through a positive feedback loop, the authors say. Whether dietary CLA has anti-inflammatory activity in neurological disease needs future study.
Limits of this study
A narrative review with no numbers; it does not test PEA supplementation. The authors declare no commercial or financial relationships.
