- What was measured
- How palmitoylethanolamide, alone and with luteolin, may act on nerve cell connections and brain inflammation in Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia and motor neurone disease.
What the authors reported
Actions through PPAR-alpha, GPR55 and TRPV1 are described, alongside early clinical signs of effect on cortical plasticity in frontotemporal dementia. The authors say larger trials are needed, and that no clinical data had been published in Alzheimer's disease at the time.
Limits of this study
A narrative review by the group that later ran the frontotemporal dementia trial in this database (Assogna 2025). It was funded by the Italian Ministry of Health, and the authors declared no conflicts.
