Powder, capsule, tablet, sachet, cream

The trials on this site gave palmitoylethanolamide in six physical forms. The form is a fact about the study, listed here so a reader can match a product to the evidence for it. This page names no suppliers and recommends nothing.

Tablets

The Italian trials mostly used tablets of 300 or 600 mg, micronised or ultramicronised. Guida 2010 (300 or 600 mg a day, 21 days), Schifilliti 2014 (300 mg twice a day), Cocito 2024 (600 mg twice a day) and the glaucoma trials Gagliano 2011 and Strobbe 2013 (300 mg twice a day). Narayanaswam 2023 used a 400 mg tablet combined with astaxanthin.

Capsules

The Australian and Gencor-funded trials used capsules of Levagen or Levagen+: 300 mg per capsule in Rao 2025 and Steels 2019; 350 mg in Briskey 2023 and Schouten 2026. Taye 2026 used 300 mg capsules of a different brand. Briskey 2026 gave capsules to dogs and cats with food.

Sachets and granules under the tongue

Several Epitech products come as microgranules meant to dissolve under the tongue. Versace 2023 and Di Stadio 2022 used a 700 mg plus 70 mg luteolin sachet daily; Cantone 2024 the same. Albanese 2022 used 1,800 mg a day of sublingual microgranules. No trial has compared the sublingual route with swallowed tablets.

Drinks and powders

Mallard 2020 gave 167.5 mg of Levagen+ as a drink around exercise. The absorption study Briskey 2020 compared plain powder with the dispersion form. Plain, unmicronised powder appears only as the comparator in absorption work; no clinical trial here used it on its own.

Oral suspension for animals

Noli 2019 gave cats 15 mg/kg once daily as an ultramicronised liquid suspension. The dog studies reviewed in Della Rocca 2022 used 10 mg/kg a day. See the doses table for every animal dose and its source.

Creams and lotions

Concentrations in the topical trials: 1.5% (Rao 2024, eczema), 0.3% with acetylethanolamine (Yuan 2014, dry skin), not stated in the abstracts of Eberlein 2008 or Visse 2017. See topical and skin.

Reading a label against this page

A product’s form tells you which trials, if any, tested something like it. It does not transfer a result from one product to another, because dose, particle size, carrier and partner compounds all differ. The micronised and Levagen pages cover those differences.
