Levagen+ (palmitoylethanolamide) alleviates joint pain and reduces the impact of joint pain in canines and felines: a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial

What the authors reported
For dogs, 76% of the supplement group and 40% of the placebo group met the questionnaire's definition of treatment success (P < 0.05). For cats, differences from placebo appeared in the jumping up, jumping down and current pain items at weeks 2 and 6. Two cats on the supplement and one on placebo vomited. Three dogs on placebo had adverse events.
Limits of this study
All outcomes were reported by owners. Joint pain was not confirmed by a vet examination or radiographs. The study ran for 6 weeks. For cats, the differences were in individual questionnaire items. The study and its publication fee were funded by Gencor Pacific, which makes Levagen+.
