Levagen+ (palmitoylethanolamide) alleviates joint pain and reduces the impact of joint pain in canines and felines: a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial

What the authors reported
The trial found:
- For dogs, 76% of the supplement group and 40% of the placebo group met the questionnaire's definition of treatment success (P < 0.05).
- For cats, differences from placebo appeared in the jumping up, jumping down and current pain items at weeks 2 and 6.
- Two cats on the supplement and one on placebo vomited.
- Three dogs on placebo had adverse events.
Limits of this study
All outcomes were reported by owners. Joint pain was not confirmed by a vet examination or radiographs. The study ran for 6 weeks. For cats, the differences were in individual questionnaire items. The study and its publication fee were funded by Gencor Pacific, which makes Levagen+.
