What the authors reported
Studies in dogs and cats covered here include an open multi-centre trial of 160 dogs given 10 mg/kg a day for 56 days and the cat trial by Noli and colleagues. The authors describe the safety record as good but say more data are still needed, calling the field still in its infancy.
Limits of this study
A narrative review. Several of the dog studies it describes were open-label, and some tested related compounds or combinations, not palmitoylethanolamide alone. The review received no external funding, and the authors declared no conflicts.
