What the authors reported
The authors describe wide-ranging protective effects in laboratory work and report a good tolerability record in people, with minimal risk of drug interactions. They say most of the evidence comes from laboratory studies or small trials, that dosing is inconsistent across studies, and that larger and more varied patient groups are needed.

A narrative review. The authors' own list of gaps applies to the evidence it summarises. It received no external funding, and the authors declared no conflicts.
