Inhibition of triple negative breast cancer-associated inflammation and progression by N- acylethanolamine acid amide hydrolase (NAAA)
Laboratory studyHumansOther animals
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- Human triple-negative breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-BrM2) and mice given MDA-MB-BrM2 cells
- Dose used in the study
- Palmitoylethanolamide or the NAAA inhibitor AM11095 in cell culture; AM11095 in mice; doses not stated in the abstract
- Duration
- Not stated in the abstract
- What was measured
- NAAA expression; IL-6 and IL-8 secretion, NF-kB activation, VEGF and PLGF expression and cell migration; tumour number, volume and survival in mice by MRI.
What the authors reported
This lab study found:
- Cancer cells expressed raised NAAA.
- PEA or AM11095 reduced IL-6 and IL-8 secretion, NF-kB activation, VEGF and PLGF expression and cell migration.
- Mice treated with AM11095 had fewer and smaller tumours and longer survival than untreated or vehicle-treated mice.
Limits of this study
A cell and mouse study; it cannot show effect in people or animals treated in practice. The in vivo results used the NAAA inhibitor, not PEA itself. The authors declare no competing interests.
