Genetically-targeted photorelease of endocannabinoids enables optical control of GPR55 in pancreatic β-cells
Laboratory studyOther animals

- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- Pancreatic beta-cells in culture
- Dose used in the study
- Photocaged palmitoylethanolamide (OCT-PEA) released by light at genetically targeted membranes; concentration not stated in the abstract
- Duration
- Not stated in the abstract
- What was measured
- Calcium activity in beta-cells after light-triggered release of PEA at the plasma membrane.
What the authors reported
The OCT-ligand method allowed PEA to be released at defined cell membranes. Released PEA showed that plasma membrane GPR55 stimulates beta-cell calcium activity through phospholipase C.
Limits of this study
A chemical tool development study in cultured cells; it cannot show effect in people or animals treated in practice. There are no conflicts to declare.
