Enrico Gugliandolo, Roberta Fusco, Flavia Biundo, Ramona D'Amico, Filippo Benedetto, Rosanna Di Paola, Salvatore Cuzzocrea. Pharmacol Res. 2017 Sep;123:83-92.

Laboratory studyOther animalsWith polydatin

This study tested palmitoylethanolamide together with polydatin. Its results cannot be assigned to palmitoylethanolamide alone. More combination studies.

Design
Laboratory study
Subjects
Rats with carotid artery ligation to induce vascular injury (neointimal hyperplasia)
Dose used in the study
PEA/polydatin combination 30 mg/kg; route not stated
Duration
14 days
What was measured
Vessel structural change, adhesion molecules (ICAM-1, VCAM-1), proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL-1beta), iNOS, PAR, NF-kB and apoptosis markers (BAX, Fas-Ligand).

What the authors reported

PEA/polydatin 30 mg/kg reduced the vascular structural damage caused by carotid ligation, along with adhesion molecule expression (ICAM-1, VCAM-1), the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-1beta, iNOS, PAR formation, NF-kB activation and apoptosis markers, all of which ligation had raised.

Limits of this study

A rat model of surgically induced vascular injury; it cannot show effect in people. Funding and conflicts not stated in the abstract; the group has used Epitech-linked co-micronised PEA formulations before.
