Moisturisers containing physiological lipids and functional ingredients such as palmitoylethanolamide, built on biomimic technology, are reported to benefit barrier-disrupted skin and to be generally well tolerated. The authors describe the role of lipid lamellae in the stratum corneum and of endocannabinoid mediators in barrier function.
