Sinerga may prevent recurrent respiratory infections in allergic children
Controlled trialHumansWith Kluyveromyces marxianus B0399, bovine colostrum and phenylalanine (the Sinerga supplement)
This study tested palmitoylethanolamide together with Kluyveromyces marxianus B0399, bovine colostrum and phenylalanine (the Sinerga supplement). Its results cannot be assigned to palmitoylethanolamide alone. More combination studies.
- Design
- Controlled trial
- Subjects
- 40 allergic children with recurrent respiratory infections: 20 given Sinerga plus standard therapy, 20 given standard therapy only
- Dose used in the study
- Sinerga dietary supplement containing palmitoylethanolamide, Kluyveromyces marxianus B0399, bovine colostrum and phenylalanine, taken 20 of every 30 days, with antihistamine and intranasal corticosteroid
- Duration
- 3 months
- What was measured
- Number of respiratory infections and size of the inferior and middle nasal turbinates.
What the authors reported
Sinerga significantly reduced the number of respiratory infections and the size of both inferior and middle turbinates compared with standard therapy alone, though no figures are given in the abstract.
Limits of this study
A small study of 40 children; the abstract does not say it was randomised or blinded and gives no numbers. Palmitoylethanolamide was one of four ingredients, so its own contribution cannot be separated. Funding and conflicts not stated in the abstract.
