Effects of Gabexate Mesylate on the Gut Microbiota and Metabolomics in Rats with Sepsis
Laboratory studyOther animals
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- 60 SD rats in sham, caecal ligation and puncture (CLP), and gabexate mesylate groups
- Dose used in the study
- No palmitoylethanolamide was given; gabexate mesylate by injection, dose not stated in the abstract
- Duration
- 24 hours after the procedure
- What was measured
- Mortality, gut microbiota sequencing and faecal metabolomics, and lung histology.
What the authors reported
This study found:
- Gabexate mesylate raised Pygmaiobacter, Lactobacillus and Erysipelotrichaceae UCG-003 and lowered Escherichia-Shigella and Akkermansia.
- Palmitoylethanolamide, deoxycholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid correlated with the shifted genera (P < 0.05).
- Mortality was 10/20 in the CLP group versus 0/20 in sham and 4/20 in the treated group.
Limits of this study
A rat sepsis model; it cannot show effect in people or animals treated in practice. PEA was one metabolite that changed, not a treatment. The authors declare no conflicts of interest.
