- Whether palmitoylethanolamide is effective and safe against influenza and the common cold: a review of six early clinical trials
What the authors reported
The results support effectiveness and safety, the authors say, drawing on six earlier trials in respiratory infection. Palmitoylethanolamide has been known as a food component since 1957, and most research since Levi-Montalcini's 1993 work has instead concerned nerve pain and mast cell disorders.
Limits of this study
A narrative review of trials run decades ago, to the standards of their time. The entry was checked against the abstract only, which gives no trial details or numbers. The lead author has published widely in support of palmitoylethanolamide. For a modern trial in respiratory infection, see Rao 2023.
