Design
Laboratory study
Subjects
High Drinking in the Dark (HDID-1) mice, a genetic model of binge-like drinking
Dose used in the study
Palmitoylethanolamide 0, 75, 150 or 225 mg/kg; also tacrolimus, sirolimus and secukinumab at several doses; route not stated in the abstract
Duration
2-day Drinking in the Dark test
What was measured
Binge-like ethanol intake and blood alcohol levels; water and saccharin intake.

What the authors reported

Tacrolimus reduced ethanol intake and blood alcohol levels, and reduced saccharin but not water intake. Palmitoylethanolamide, sirolimus and secukinumab had no effect on ethanol intake or blood alcohol levels at any dose tested.

Limits of this study

A mouse model; it cannot show effect in people. PEA gave a null result here. The authors declare no conflicts of interest.
